Starting A Website

There are several things to keep in mind when you first decide to create your website.
When I started I wanted to see how it would work and I didn't want to spend a lot of money.

My First Domain Name

I first searched Google for every site that was offering free hosting and a free domain name.
These will almost always come in the form of subdomains like www.yoursite.Rad5.com

I signed up with two different free hosts and started working on my sites.
One problem I noticed right away was that since I didn't have a lot of control of the domain name I was a little reserved about spending any money at all, or a lot of time working on my sites.

After about a month, the first site started installing spyware on everyone who visited my site.

Not only that but they also installed other stuff and a large pop up would appear asking you to click to install the software, if you clicked no it would immediately appear again, and again.

This made the site completely unusable.

All my work down the drain.

But I still had my 2nd site and so I started working more on that one.

I signed up for some affiliate accounts and started putting affiliate links on my site.

Next I got listed with Google and Yahoo.

About that time the site that was providing the hosting went out of business and poof everything was gone.

Free Sites

If your going to use a free site I would use Google's Blogger.com or I would use the MSN blog site, you will get links that look something like:

-- link removed --

But Bill Gates is probably not going to have trouble paying for renewing the domain name anytime soon.

* MSN deleted my website so it is gone now, so I have changed my mind about using MSN. I created several sites with blogger around the same time and they are all still up but my MSN sites are all gone so I won't be wasting any more of my tme working on anything on their site.

If you don't like the domain name you can use:

* [edit] links removed because MSN deleted all my websites, probably because I didn't update them often enough, if you want a free site that is going to be around for a while then you should probably stick with blogger.com

Anyway, other than those two sites I would stay away from the free sites because you have little control over them and you will not want to spend anytime promoting your site if in the back of your mind you are thinking any second I can lose all my work.
