Managing
your link exchange directory is a lot of work. I tried writing my
own html pages and keeping track of all the links and emails.
That lasted about 1 day then I realized I needed some help. A lot of help.
There are a lot of things to keep track of, when your starting out with
a new site then your going to be posting all your links first then
asking the other person to link back to you, and trying to keep track
of who you have emailed and who you haven't.
Not to mention trying to check that your link exchange partners have linked back to your site.
LinkMachine
My first recommendation is LinkMachine. This new SEO link exchange
software really works great. It can create a custom link directory
that matches the rest of your site and checking for missing reciprocal
links automatically.
The InstantLinks system I was not that impressed with. I did
get a few links that came in but there were several PR 0 sites.
But if you want to spend almost no time and get some links it
will work and over time they would add up.
Site http://www.linkmachine.net/
Linkmachine runs off Php scripts on your site's server.
Cost Standard version (Free) / Premium version ($69.95)
It installs fast by uploading one file and changing a couple MOD's on the directory you are going to install it in.
Ability to exchange links with other members (Premium version only)
Finds relevant sites to exchange links with (Premium version only)
Sends link exchange invitation e-mails
Generates customizable link pages
Automatically updates link pages on web server
Visitors to your site can add new links
Checks for reciprocal links to your site
Sends e-mail when reciprocal link missing
When I first installed it there is a count down timer that starts and
gives you something like 10 days. I was really worried what was going
to happen when it got to ZERO I was sure something would blow up.
But nothing happens, almost nothing, it turns off the premium functions
and deletes your instalinks, everything else works fine, and you don't
lose any of your hard work.
Link Swapper
This is a good program but it uses php files to create dynamic link pages. That is the main thing wrong with it.
Dynamic pages are going to make it harder to get listed in the search engines and more people will refuse to link with you.
If you do use this program then you want to try to get listed with
Google and then you can explain that you are listed when you contact
people. But it has been my expierence that most people don't read much
of what you send them.
Site http://www.link-swapper.com/
Type Software/Service. Php or ASP script runs on your site's server.
The cost is Free so you can complain about the price.
It will generate your categorized link pages, allow both yourself and
your visitors to add new links, and check for reciprocal links. The
link pages can't be customized and there are few bells and whistles,
but a good basic tool for a small site.
