Expired Domain Names
What are Expired Domain Names, and how can they be of Use?
Expired Domain names are website names that have been registered for use in the past. It is usually a business setting up a website to promote itself online. Then due to various reasons they fail to renew the registration of the name. This can be anything from the website owner going out of business to the owner just forgetting to reregister the name when the due time arrives.
It is at this point that several opportunities arise for the alert domain buyer. This is when the name can be bought and then traffic to that website redirected to where the new owner wants it. For example. Old website was for "Old widgets" New owner has website for "New Improved Widgets" he buys "Old widgets" and redirects traffic to "New Improved Widgets" website
This is where your first of three lines of potential profit arise.
When the website was first registered the owner worked hard and got hundreds of links into his website. Then Paid to be included in directories such as Yahoo. All these links are generating click through to "widgets" but now its been redirected to "Improved Widgets" When the click through goes to your new website you profit by selling more product. Compared to Pay Per Click from companies like Google where you could be paying $50 a click for high competition key words, buying an expired domain name is a bargain for under $10 for a full years traffic from that website.
The second line of profit is when you buy the domain name and then resell it for a profit. High value two letter or single word names are very valuable. Example www.business.com was sold for over $7 Million and cost less than $20 to register.
The third line of profit is where you buy a lot of expired domain names and start your own pay per click business. By doing this you can build up a very profitable business in a short period of time.
Now the question is, How do I get them? This is surprisingly simple .
You have to remember that there are literally thousands of domain names expiring every day. How are the best ones found and registered? I would recommend you go to Google and search for expired domain name software. There are many programs there to peruse and test. Most have a demonstration versions that you can use to test before you buy. Those software products will do all the tedious but vital work for you, such as finding the available expired domains, the domains due for expiry and the number of links to each name. Some will allow you to find the Alexa PR number of the domain name website and of those linking to it. All vital indicators as to the worth of the individual domain name.
A good name will be a short single word with many high quality links to it. If it has this and is suitable for your business then you can indeed make a lot of money from expired domain names.
