Wine Corkscrews
The other day, I didn’t have anything to open a bottle of wine so I bought a new corkscrew. I just bought one that the grocery store had that was cheap.
But I don’t like the way it works, for one I have trouble getting a really good grip with my hands. This makes it hard for me to pull the cork out, so I need some kind of mechanical assistance.
I started looking around on the internet (like I always do when I have a question about something) and then I started thinking what about a person with only one hand, how would they open a bottle of wine?
I guess they could sit down and hold the bottle with their feet, but that is not very convenient.
I searched Google for “one handed corkscrew” and came up with 9 results, but none of them were really helpful.
Then I ran across a Silver Houdini lever-style corkscrew that can be used on the stand, with the stand it looks like it might work just using one hand.
I just ran across an electrical corkscrew, it has a 4 inch screw that goes down through the cork then just keeps going and pulls the cork out.
Ok, the problem I have with this is by running the screw through the bottom of the cork you get little flecks of cork in your wine, and that really bothers me, sometimes it bothers me so much I will get a coffee strainer and strain the wine after it has been opened this way.
Sometimes I just scoop them out with a spoon, depends on what kind of a mood I am in and how many little pieces in up in my wine glass.
There is also a “Rabbit” corkscrew and I am not sure, but it might work that same way.
This is something, I just search for "one handed wine bottle opener” (with the quotes) and you will get exactly one result. (not easy to find pages with just one result anymore on Google.)
Just read a review about the "Rogar Bronze Estate Wine Opener with Maple Stand"
The person said:
Ever had pieces of cork floating in the wine? That’s impressive at a dinner party huh?
So I am guessing they don’t like tiny floating cork pieces any more than I do, and they really seemed to like this opener, so I think I am going to give it a shot and see how it works out.
Although I may try the ratchet one first, since it is much smaller and quite a bit cheaper.
